To say the experience of the last week has been akin to drinking water from a fire hose would be the understatement of the year. We are overwhelmed by the amount of interest in the L16 and so grateful for it. If you’re still waiting for an email reply from us, we appreciate your patience.
Just before launch we set an internal sales goal for our first month of pre-orders. I’m excited to report that we blew through that goal in 2 days.
Due to our current pre-order velocity, we will be adjusting our shipping forecast at the end of the day Friday. All pre-orders received on or before Friday 16 October (Pacific Time) will ship by late Summer 2016. Pre-orders received on or after Saturday 17 October (Pacific Time) will ship by Autumn 2016.
We launched this pre-order campaign for two reasons. First, we have a vast and wildly complicated global supply chain to begin calibrating. Understanding the actual demand for the first product allows us to shape our ordering curves with our suppliers. As a startup, deploying capital into the supply chain can be a make or break decision, one we don’t take lightly.
Secondly, opening up pre-orders allows us to understand who is most interested in the L16 and why. We have already learned some incredible things about our audience this week. Those insights will fuel product development all the way until we ship our first product (and beyond!)
